The coolest thing about the 2017 eclipse was not the thing itself but what the thing inspired. Almost every group I stopped to hang out with was made up of neighbors who had never really connected before. I was moved by the way they all welcomed me--some random dude on a bike. I was offered everything from grapes to weed, special sunglasses or a peek at the shadow of the thing through some handmade contraption. It was a reminder that there really is no thing without us. No me without you, no you without me, no sun without us. Without our collective thought, it's just a bunch of nothing nowhere. We create this world, together.
